How Bill Emery Became a Bigfoot Investigator: In His Own Words

I will start my story in Wyoming. I was born there and grew up on our cattle ranch outside Cody. At that time the Emery Ranch ran 530 head of cattle. My dad died at 39 years old of a infection from a piece of farm machinery. My mother and three brothers and I ran the ranch from then on.

In 1967 after I left the service, I moved to Coos Bay,Oregon and began logging. I worked for different outfits for 3 years. And then I started my own contract cutting business. After a couple years, I met Dakota. She was working for GP as a bookkeeper at that time. We married after a short time and moved to Otis, Oregon because of work. In 1983 my work took me to Alaska. I didn't like it up there because of the cold, though the country was great.

1985 came and we moved back to Oregon. In that year I was on a cutting job in Josephine County when one morning I went to work to find these large bare footprints on the side of the mountain that I was working on. I followed them for about a half mile down this steep hillside. The trail of tracks was clear. Then I found where something had torn my saw apart. The handle was ripped off and  the bar was bent in a 45 degree angle. It was every one's practice back then to leave the saws on the job at night so we didn't have to pack them in every day.

I was just at a loss for words to explain how this happened. The prints were clear and deep. They must have been 17 inches or larger. The prints had five toes in each  track. I had never seen such tracks before. Anyway a road contractor was building the road into the area that I was cutting and I told him of my find. That guy was Dale Saxton. He looked at me and said "Found the same thing myself one time." I asked him if he ever found out who made them and he replied "No, but I'm still looking!" I said "Still?"  He said “Yep." Then he said are you familiar with the name Bigfoot?

I explained I had but didn't believe in it too much. Well long story short, he told me he was looking for Bigfoot. After a couple days, I decided that his explanation of the track had merit so I told him I would like to know more about his search. That started a long friendship between us. When we returned to the coast, he invited me over to look at his cast and other evidence. I had to admit it was a mystery to me how this Bigfoot thing could remain so under reported.

Now the years have passed and I have a better understanding of how and why this thing can remain out of sight for most people. I'm not in this for money or fame. On the contrary I like my privacy like everyone. I have no goals to become famous or well known in the Bigfoot world. My final goal is simple: People need the truth about Bigfoot and the government needs to quit playing around with the current evidence that show them real.
